Prom Xtra

A family-fun day will attract thousands to Colwyn Bay this weekend.

Prom Xtra ‘18 returns to Colwyn Bay’s Promenade this Saturday, May 12 with fairground rides, The Tudno FM Roadshow, entertainment, and lots of free activities.

Thrill-seekers can catch a virtual wave on the Surf Snowdonia-sponsored surf simulator, ride a Segway, or drive a hovercraft for free—if over 16. Helicopter rides are also available for £35 per person, but organisers are advising to book early to avoid disappointment. Music fans can enjoy local talent performing on the Prom Live stage, whilst baby meerkats, rabbits, snakes, spiders, and scorpions will feature in an interactive animal display.

Cllr Louise Emery is Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and said, “Every year Prom Xtra offers a brilliant day out to families in North Wales. This is a fantastic event because much of the entertainment is free.

“The event attracts thousands to the area, and, quite literally, there is something for everyone, no matter what your taste or interest.

“Prom Xtra is the right environment for a great day out with friends and family.”

The Adventure Zone is a mostly free attraction featuring death-defying acrobats, trial bike stunts, and an inflatable assault course, although the course does include a charge. Have-a-go-sports, like kayaking, quadbikes, cricket, and Futsal, will entertain sports fans, whilst those with more artistic tendencies can enjoy activity workshops free of charge within the Beach Zone.

This year, Prom Xtra has more activities than ever in Welsh. Mudiad Meithrin and the Urdd will be on the Prom Live stage and beach, providing hours of entertainment with stories, singing, crafts and activities. Organisers are encouraging non-Welsh speakers to come and learn a few phrases for fun.
